Packaging

The cosmetics industry is highly polluting, due to the large amount of plastic packaging it produces. The vast majority of which is non-recyclable.

From the beginning it has been clear to us that, as a brand, it is in our hands to do something to fight against plastic pollution of our oceans. Our goal is to generate as little waste as possible. This means making choices about our packaging that have not always been the easiest or the cheapest.

We avoid single-use plastics in our products at all costs, and always use recycled materials for all elements of packaging, from boxes to bottles. Nothing we create will cause additional waste for the planet. Upcycling old materials to ensure everything we use has already been used before.

Designed with intention

We do not believe you have to sacrifice beautiful design for sustainability. On the contrary, we believe the two should go hand in hand. Our aim is to pioneer a more planet-friendly mindset when it comes to packaging in the cosmetics industry.

As a beauty brand, it can be hard to be sustainable. Eco-friendly beauty products sometimes have a reputation for not being as beautiful as other products on the market, not as functional, harder to use and costing more to purchase. To change old-fashioned opinions on what sustainable beauty looks like, we set out to create packaging in an elegant, minimalist design you'd be proud to display on your bathroom shelf, without compromising sustainability.

We only work with planet-friendly alternatives to plastic and materials that do not pollute the Earth. We believe that YES, it is possible, and it is in our hands to be an engine of change. To educate consumers on conscious beauty choices, and lead by example to show other brands producing tons of plastics every year that there is another way.

Why aluminium?

Did you know that more than 75% of the aluminium ever produced is still in use today? This is due to its high recycling and reuse rate. Aluminium is an infinitely more recyclable option than plastic or glass.

The main reason for choosing aluminium is its sustainable life cycle. Aluminium is 100% recyclable and can be recycled an infinite number of times without losing its physical properties or quality. In contrast, plastic loses quality with each recycling cycle, which limits its ability to be recycled repeatedly. To a lesser extent, the same is true for glass, but it takes a lot of energy to recycle glass. In contrast, the aluminium recycling process requires only 5% of the energy that would be needed to produce new aluminium.

Not all aluminum is equal, though. Recycled aluminum saves up to 95% of the energy compared to primary aluminum, making it the obvious choice. We prioritized post-consumer recycled aluminum over post-industrial (pre-consumer) aluminum because the latter is not truly recycled, as it comes from leftover materials in the production process, retaining the original production's carbon footprint. Our aluminum bottles are made from 100% post-consumer recycled aluminum.

Statistically, aluminium is much more likely to be recycled once it is placed in the right container. Depending on the country and the city you live in, everything you take to the recycling bins has a different chance of being recycled. In other words, the recyclability of packaging can vary depending on the region and the recycling systems available there.

On the other hand, some plastic products may be composed of multiple types of plastic, which makes them difficult to recycle. There are around 7 different categories of plastic, and, although several of them are recyclable, it is only the first 2 or 3 that are actually recycled. Therefore, even if a plastic bottle is marked as recyclable, it does not mean that it will be recycled.

We can say that, by choosing 100% recycled aluminium packaging, we are not bringing new waste to the planet. Instead, we are contributing to a circular economy with what already exists.

Aluminium is not the cheapest option. But, as a company looking to make a positive impact, we want to inspire others. From consumers to other brands, we want to educate on the importance of recyclable materials and pioneer more sustainable daily practices we can all adopt.

" Minimal waste " philosophy

From the beginning, we've adopted a minimal-waste philosophy that drives every decision we make. All of our packaging is designed with intention, aiming to have the lowest possible impact.

Our products come in FSC-certified paper and cardboard packaging, made from recycled and upcycled materials. We also ensure that they are recyclable and contain the highest possible proportion of recycled materials.

We know that the path toward sustainability involves making choices that aren't always the most cost-effective from a brand's perspective. However, for us, it makes sense to choose the most sustainable alternatives, even if they come at a higher cost. We can't imagine it any other way.
